Quality Steers make $3.79/kg at Gympie
Despite the wet weather, Sullivan Livestock yarded 1040 cattle at their Gympie Liveweight Sale held Monday 8th February where the market was dearer for all descriptions.
Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Booubyjan, Maryborough, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Conondale, Kenilworth, Takura, Eumundi, Tansey, Goomeri and all local areas.
A quality line up of heavy feeder steers was led by Brangus steers from Dagun to make $3.26/kg returning $1582. Droughtmaster X feeder steers from Geoff Pearce, Tansey sold for $3.25 or $1440. Garglen Brahman Co, Kandanga sold Brahman steers for $3.19 to return $1216. Don Law, Moy Pocket sold good quality Black steers for $3.24 or $1435.
Weaner steers were short in supply and sold to a top of $3.79/kg. Col Mellor, Goomboorian sold Droughtmaster X steers for $3.61 or $896, while Brahman X weaner steers from McFarlane Farming, Glenwood sold to a top of $3.67 to return $779. Weaner steers generally sold from $3.30 to $3.67.
Rozynski Enterprises, Imbil sold 3 pens of good quality Charbray heifers for $3.17/kg, $3.15/kg and $3.05/kg to realise $1257, $1153 & $1181. Brahman X heifers from KiaOra sold to $3.03 or $1096. Droughtmaster heifers from Tom Ball, Eumundi sold for $2.97 to return at $983. Peter Horne, Takura sold Brangus weaner heifers for $3.17 or $691, while Charbray weaner heifers from David Gartshore, Langshaw sold for $3.19 to return $666.
Better quality weaner heifers generally sold from $2.95 to $3.17.
Very few Cows & Calves were yarded and sold from $925 to $1500.
